About Us

The Vermilion Energy/YWCA Skills Training Centre trains people to take control of their lives and achieve and maintain success in Calgary's construction industry.

Whether you're a single parent working just to pay the daycare, unemployed, under-employed, or looking for a new rewarding career in the construction industry, this program could be the right fit for you!

Over 16-weeks, trainees at the Vermilion Energy/YWCA Skills Training Centre gain employable carpentry skills through hands-on shop training, career path mentorship, life skills training, physical fitness development, workplace cultural adaptation and a two-week work term.

While in the program, trainees have access to crucial support services of the YWCA including housing, childcare and a living wage for those who qualify.

Launched in September 2007, the Vermilion Energy/YWCA Skills Training Centre offers three 16-week sessions annually. Classes run daily from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Vermilion Energy/YWCA Skills Training Centre is a partnership between the YWCA of Calgary and Vermilion Energy who has generously invested more than $2.5 million. In addition, a group called the “Friends of Vermilion”, which include company founders, directors on the board, members of the executive and staff, rallied to raise $1.5 million for this unique initiative designed to empower women and their families.

First the first time in our history, the YWCA was in the Stampede Parade, winning honourable mention.
