In 2010 the YWCA of Calgary celebrates a century of serving women in Calgary. We promise to be here until all women and children are safe and have housing.  

In addition to being one of the oldest and most established social services organizations in the city, the YWCA of Calgary is one of the only agencies active in the community that places women at the centre of a holistic service model along a life-cycle continuum. Although other agencies focus on violence and abuse against women, the YWCA focuses on moving women from dependence to independence by offering pre-employment programs, child care, transitional housing and outreach supports.

Here is a short list of upcoming events in which you can take part.

Monday, Jan. 18:  RBC chooses the YWCA of Calgary to carry the Olympic torch. Find out who that person is and how you can cheer her on. Click here.

Monday, March 8: The annual Woman of Vision Awards Luncheon, a partnership between Global Television and YWCA of Calgary, takes places at the Westin. This year's celebrations will include a Centennial toast to the YWCA of Calgary.

Wednesday, April 28:  Attend the YWCA of Calgary's Annual General Meeting for its special Centennial component.

Friday, April 30:  RBC Keep a Roof Over Their Heads. Sleep homeless for just one night in the YWCA gym.

May 26:  Join the public celebration at Olympic Plaza in partnership with other organizations celebrating significant years in 2010 e.g. Calgary Board of Education – 125; Calgary Catholic School District – 125; Mount Royal University – 100; Calgary Police Service – 125; Calgary Family Services - 100

Friday, July 9:   Get in the Centennial spirit by attending the Calgary Stampede parade where a float celebrating YWCA of Calgary 100th Anniversary will parade. 

Monday, September 20:  Find out how the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraising event issues a Centennial challenge to the community.

October 1 & 2, 2010:  Come and watch our Alumnae Play – A Centennial Revue – Creaky Doors Last the Longest, at the Knox United Church

December 16: Closing event
