Application Process
The first questions most people ask, are "Am I qualified" and "How do I apply?"
The information below should help you to better understand the process.
Please note that if after step number three you are deemed ineligible for the program, you may still proceed with the application process, but may be placed on the waiting list until we have filled the required number of government eligible seats.
All candidates must complete each step of the application process.

Register for an information session
Information sessions are held weekly on Thursdays at the Vermilion/YWCA Skills Training Centre located at 4086 Odgen Road SE. You may register for an information session by calling 403.705.7526 or emailing recruiter@ywcaofcalgary.com.

Attend an information session
After registering for an information session, attend on the date and time you are registered for at the Vermilion/YWCA Skills Training Centre. At this time you will learn all about the program and determine your level of interest. If you cannot attend please contact us to cancel or reschedule your attendance.

Fill out an application form
The application form will be provided and may be filled out at the end of the information session.

Government Eligibility
Applicants may receive a living wage and other financial assistance where needed. The tuition for the Carpentry Training program may be provided by the Federal Government or by the Province of Alberta. All applicants must apply through the Federal or Provincial government to determine program eligibility. More information on program eligibility here.

Book a TOWES assessment
After receiving program approval from the Federal or Provincial Government, or your application is in process, all applicants must book a TOWES assessment. This assessment is scheduled according to need and is held at the Vermilion/YWCA Skills Training Centre. Applicants may request a TOWES preparation guide at the information session.

Book an appointment for an interview
After an applicant has completed the TOWES assessment, they must book an interview at the Vermilion/YWCA Skills Training Centre. The interview will be conducted by two or more of the staff at the Vermilion/YWCA Skills Training Centre and will determine your final eligibility for acceptance into the program.

Approval
All applicants will receive a phone call confirming their acceptance to the program as well as a confirmation letter of acceptance, which will be mailed to the applicants home address. At this time accepted candidates will be given the specific information regarding the first day of classes.

First day of class
All accepted applicants will be required to arrive on time and attend the first day and all subsequent days of the program.
