English for New Canadians

We offer part-time English language classes from basic to advanced language levels for Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens. Students receive partial funding from Calgary Learns and the United Way of Calgary.

Classes are offered at the YWCA of Calgary - 320 - 5th Avenue SE as well as in some local Calgary Public Libraries

 

Program Description

    Part-time Daytime Classes

    • Communication Skills – Improve your ability to communicate in English. The focus is on fluency, pronunciation and conversation skills.
    • Reading & Writing – Improve your reading skills and your ability to communicate in writing. The focus is on is on reading strategies, grammar and techniques for writing.
    • ESL Conversation - General ESL classes with a focus on listening, speaking and grammar.

    Part-time Evening Classes - focus on specific language skills

    • Communication Skills – fluency, pronunciation and conversation skills.
    • General ESL – with a focus on listening, speaking & grammar.
    • Social Conversation – practice conversation and learn Canadian idioms.
    • Pronunciation and Fluency – focuses on clearer sounds, correct stress and intonation.
    • North American Slang - Slang, idioms, Canadian expressions, business jargon, gestures and different sounds
